A
fairly quiet round of midweek matches, if you count 59 yellow cards and four
reds as below par. Megia Davila's sending off of Bruno Marioni after 19 seconds
was probably a bit over the top, (but then so was the tackle), and the game
never recovered after that. Megia must have a bit of a grudge against the
Argentine striker, who he sent off after 13 minutes last season when he played
for Villarreal. Talking of Villarreal, they were unhappy with López
Nieto who disallowed a Palermo goal and turned down claims for a penalty by
Deportivo's Héctor on Víctor. The penalty appeal may have been
valid, but the goal was not, Palermo bundling a defender out of the way before
scoring. Málaga's manager Joaquín Peiró complained
bitterly about the linesman after his team lost to a Llorens penalty. Referee
Rodríguez Santiago had not seen anything wrong with Iznata's challenge
on the Alavés striker Vucko, but he awarded the spot kick at the
insistence of his assistant. Even the Alavés manager Mané
admitted after the match that Vucko could have won a diving contest with his
performance. (05.10.01) |
