White Stick Awards
Discreet performances by most of our boys in black, although a high number of red (5) and yellow (55) cards were shown. Carmona Méndez had no choice though in the game between Osasuna and Espanyol with the two sides laying in to each other right from the kick off, and he produced four yellows for the home side and eight for the visitors. Curiously though (presumably by chance) nobody was sent off, and none of the cards went to players who were on the verge of suspension for accumulation of cautions. A good man to take with you to the Casino? The same cannot be said for Téllez Sánchez, who returns to the top of our chart this week after another over-zealous performance. He produced eight yellows in a fairly clean game, sending off Víctor for a second bookable offence when neither really warranted a caution. On past history though, the disciplinary committee will probably uphold the referee's word and suspend the player. (18.02.02)
