Another quiet weekend from referees, despite a sum total
of 66 yellow cards and three red. There were however a couple of crucial
decisions which could have influenced the results of their respective games and
consequently who goes down this season. Real Sociedad can feel hard done by
when Daudén Ibáñez ruled out a goal from Kovacevic in the
twentieth minute for a non-existent offside which only he and the linesman saw.
Real went on to lose 3-0 afterwards, but the scoreline could have been
different if that goal had been allowed to stand. On the other hand Undiano
Mallenco could have helped Mallorca save a point when he turned down a clear
penalty appeal by Málaga when Engonga brought down Litos in the area.
That game ended 0-0. This weekend may well be remembered in two or three weeks
time when the relegation issue is finally settled, especially if Real Sociedad
and Mallorca are involved. (23.04.02) |
