White Stick Awards

A relatively quiet weekend, despite the fact that some of our top referees were in charge. Last year's white stick winner Iturralde González produced the fastest sending off of the season, Mallorca's Fernando Niño seeing red in the first minute, and González Vázquez upset the Athletic Bilbao players when he waved away protests for possible fouls by Real Madrid's Raúl leading up to the first goal and Ronaldo leading up to the third. Barcelona were less than happy too that Medina Cantalejo has given six penalties against them in nine games (the one this week was very rigorous) and also was a bit over-strict in sending off Motta. But the only clear cut mistakes came in the game between Villarreal and Osasuna, where Moreno Delgado incorrectly allowed Guayre's goal when offside and then incorrectly disallowed Roger's goal for an offside that wasn't. Ah well, it all evened up in the end. (04.11.03)
