Another rookie referee made
the headlines this weekend, Teixeira Vitienes upsetting Espanyol's new boss
Luis Fernández when he effectively cost them the game at Albacete. The
Periquitos were a goal up when a dreadful mistake by Toni let through Aranda.
Soldevilla ran back to cover, but Aranda fell as soon as the defender got
alongside him, fooling the referee into giving a penalty and sending off the
defender. Worse was to come when Aranda clearly knocked the ball forward with
his forearm as he went on to score the winning goal, the referee refusing to
see anything wrong, and he then sent off Torricelli for a foul on the young
striker later on. It wasn't all one way traffic though, the referee disallowing
a headed goal by Pablo García after he climbed on a defender's shoulders
to score. (01.12.03) |
