Not much to talk about on
the refereeing front this week, and only González Vázquez drew
any protest from managers and players. He left Athletic Bilbao with nine men
after showing ten yellow cards and two reds, and handed visitors Espanyol a
lifeline with a late penalty. One of our old favourites Daudén
Ibáñez was in the news earlier in the week though, incurring the
wrath of Gerard Houllier after he sent off Liverpool's Biscan and awarded a
penalty to Marseille late in the first half of their second leg UEFA cup tie.
Houllier blamed Daudén for their elimination from the competition, and
the referee would probably be wise not to take his summer holidays on England's
west coast this year. (30.03.04) |
