Esquinas Torres emulates the
Beatles this week (sorry, does that date us?), coming from nowhere to the top
of our chart in one week. The veteran referee drew the short straw for the
match between Valencia and Sevilla, and ended the day showing eleven yellow
cards and three reds. With the possible exception of the red card for Aranda
(see villains section) his performance was not exaggerated though, and some
commentators in Spain said he was too lenient, for example letting Baptista off
a horrendous tackle on Sissoko.
Meanwhile the only problem
that Pino Zamorano had was with the Betis crowd in the match against Real
Madrid. On two or three occasions the spectators held on to the balls when they
went out of play, and the frustrated referee advised the Betis delegate to
arrange for an announcement over the loud speakers for them to be returned,
which he did. When another ball disappeared a few minutes later though, Pino
produced a yellow card for the poor delegate! (18.10.04) |
