Complaints from the more
modest first division clubs this week, four of whom claim that referees favour
the big clubs in their decisions. Levante have sent a letter of protest to the
referees' technical committee claiming unfair treatment, the last straw being
the more than rigorous penalty awarded by Velasco Carballo in their game
against Betis. Málaga were upset at Muñiz Fernández when
he allowed Valencia's first goal to stand after Corradi barged Calatayud off
the ball, and Numancia felt that Pablo's first goal for Atlético was
preceded by a foul by Salva on a defender. The worst incidents though came at
Albacete, where Fernández Borbolán sent off two local players,
turned down a clear penalty appeal and disallowed what looked like a good goal
by Rubén Castro, albeit that the opponents were a team even more
"modest" than them, Getafe. As mentioned in our villains section, manager
José González was so upset that he stormed on to the pitch to
protest to the referee and got a red card for his troubles. A lively week all
round for our men in black. (23.11.04) |
