Megia Dávila saved
Deportivo La Coruña a point and upset Racing Santander on Sunday. The
referee awarded a penalty to the Galicians after deciding that Regueiro had
handled the ball deliberately inside the area early in the second half, but
television pictures confirmed that a) the player was outside of the area and b)
the ball hit him cleanly on the chest, and from point blank range at that.
Megía then went on to give the visitors an injury time free kick after
Duscher "fell" just outside the area, Pandiani equalising for the second time
with the kick. By then though three Racing men including manager Lucas Alcaraz
had been sent off on the touchline for, in the words of the referee, "waving
their arms around heatedly in protest at my decisions". One understood why, as
did the disciplinary committee who decided to downgrade the red cards in all
cases to yellow. (07.12.04) |
