The new year started with
more controversy, with this week's hot topic being the "phantom goals". Only a
few days after pictures of Tottenham's disallowed goal at Manchester United
travelled round the world, Spain had it's own versions to think about. On
Saturday Teixeira Vitienes ruled that Mista's header had crossed the line in
Valencia's derby game against Levante, even though Mora appeared to have caught
the ball before it went in. And on Sunday Daudén Ibáñez
decided that Albacete's Gaspercic had stopped Gabilondo's shot on the line,
even though the Real Sociedad players claimed that the keeper had saved it
inside the goal. Television pictures were not very clear in either case, but
Levante at least seem to have a valid case. Bernd Schuster's side have been
unlucky with referees' decisions in recent weeks and (as Valencia did last
season), they are starting to become paranoic and imagine all sorts of plots
against them. Strangely Valencia themselves are keeping very quiet at the
moment. (10.01.05) |
