Perhaps it was the return of
the nice warm weather, but whatever the case referees were in a better mood
this weekend. The card tally was the lowest of the season (44 yellows and two
reds), and even Pino Zamorano only produced one booking in ninety minutes. In
fact the only controversial moments came from their linesmen, probably thinking
that if they followed in their footsteps of Rafa Guerrero they could get on the
telly (see last week's report). One of Puentes Leira's assistants ruled out a
last minute strike from Racing's Javi Guerrero for a non existent offside which
would have given the Cantabrians victory against Betis. And Ramírez
Domínguez's linesman was responsible for the sending off of Espanyol's
Lopo at Mallorca, which as pointed out in our villains section was also
incorrectly adjudged. Curiously Ramírez sent off Lopo last season as
well. Meanwhile Don Rafa was keeping his head down at the match between Levante
and Málaga. (02.05.05) |
