Another big decision this
weekend, Iturralde González ruling out a perfectly good goal by
Espanyol's Velamazán against Osasuna at the behest of a linesman.
Espanyol president Daniel Sánchez Llibre said the ruling could cost the
club 1,500 million Pesetas (9 million euros for those of us living the 21st
century) as the extra two points may make the difference between a place in the
Champions League or not. González Vázquez also disallowed two
goals for Getafe against Sevilla, but in both cases his decision appeared to be
justified. There were some doubts however when he turned down a penalty appeal
by the hosts after the break when the ball hit a Sevilla defender on the arm. A
defeat for the Andalusians would also have favoured Espanyol. It was not their
lucky weekend! (24.05.05) |
