White Stick Awards

As expected Megia Dávila held off the challenge from his less experienced colleagues to take our white stick award for the second year running, unless of course whoever is designated to referee the cup final puts in a world beating performance (but there again, with Osasuna playing a Sevilla based side, anything could happen).

A few odd incidents in the last day of the season, but thankfully nothing that influenced how things turned out in the end (although last week's disallowed goal did cost Espanyol their place in the Champions League, confirming the fears of their president - see week 37 report). Velasco Carballo allowed Reggi's opening goal to stand for Levante despite a possible offside, although it mattered little as their opponents Villarreal went on to score four. And Espanyol's win against Athletic Bilbao wasn't affected by the fact that Lizondo Cortés turned down a penalty appeal after a foul on Tamudo.

Maybe Atlético wouldn't have saved a point against Getafe if Losantos Omar (who was refereeing his last game before retiring this summer) had sent off Pablo in the penalty incident, but that would only have meant that César Ferrando's side would have finished below their smaller city rivals, a blow to their pride but nothing else. So in the end a quiet end to another busy league season, and the men in black can take their well earned rest. (31.05.05)

PS Pérez Burrull pushed his way in to our chart with nine yellows and a red in the Spanish cup final. (11.06.06)
