We apologise to our readers
if it seems that this section is becoming a monologue on Real Madrid but, hey,
that's where all the action is at the moment! Daudén
Ibáñez added to the woes of the "Galacticos" this weekend in
their match against Valencia, although to be fair he did cock things up both
ways. In fact his first dubious decision was to award a penalty to Madrid for
what he thought was a foul by Moretti on Sergio Ramos, but Zidane (probably
feeling guilty that the decision was incorrect) fired his kick against the
post. David Villa had no such problems tucking away a second penalty though,
given when Aimar's cross bounced up off Sergio Ramos's body and hit him on the
arm at point blank range - a harsh decision at least. There was a hairline
decision to rule Angulo offside when he scored what would have been a third for
the visitors, inches in it, but probably correct, and then Albelda and Guti
were both let off what would have been second yellow cards. And finally two red
cards for Luxemburgo's side, the first to Gravesen probably justified for a
very late tackle, and the second for Beckham for what Daudén reported as
ironic applause, which the player denies and which the club will appeal
against. Madrid visit Deportivo on Wednesday with Fernández
Borbolán in charge. Come back later in the week for more..... (25.10.05)
PS: We can't close our
report without a word of sympathy for Spain's most infamous linesman, Rafa
Guerrero. As our frequent readers will know, Rafa is an extraterrestrial with
the ability to see things nobody else does, and has even featured in a
television advert where undesirables are abandoned in desolate places by a
well-known make of transit van. This week he was running the line in the Getafe
v Zaragoza match when he not so much fell as plummeted to the ground, and had
to be carried off on a stretcher in obvious agony. Some reports say that he
slipped and twisted his knee, but we think it was something more sinister.
