Rubinos Pérez was not
a popular man, at least in half of Sevilla, after single handedly bringing
about the downfall of Betis against Villarreal. Everything started when Rubinos
awarded the visitors a dubious penalty midway through the second half.
Joaquín's heated protests were met with a second yellow card, and when
Doblas saved Riquelme's spot kick, the referee made him take it again for an
ecroachment which, looking at television pictures, must have been by the
invisible man.
Things got worse when Melli
was shown a straight red for an insult which the player denies, and after an
Edu goal which would have saved a point was ruled out for a positional offside,
the match was stopped for three minutes due to a hail of objects thrown on to
the pitch. Rubinos and his linesmen had to have a police escort off the park at
the end, and angry fans attacked the officials' cars later on as they waited in
the dressing rooms for a safe moment to leave the ground.
A couple of other incidents
as well in an action packed round of midweek matches, with Puentes Leira
falling for Ronaldinho's Half Gaynor with Pike, allowing Barcelona to finally
make the breakthrough against Málaga, and Turienzo Alvarez turning down
a penalty appeal for a possible hand ball by Javier flaño against
Athletic Bilbao and then compensating by awarding a goal when Clavero's miskick
span backwards, waving away the visitors' claims that the ball had not crossed
the line. (29.10.05) |
