González
Vázquez and Megia Dávila are battling it out for the white stick
award this year, and the two are way clear of the rest on the card count.
González was in charge of another derby this weekend, Espanyol v
Barcelona, where he managed to produce eleven bookings, the same number that he
registered in the cup match earlier in the week between Cádiz and
Sevilla. Curiously he didn't "double up" in either game, although Espanyol
coach Miguel Angel Lotina was less than happy that he didn't show a second card
to Motta for an obvious push on an opponent. Megía refereed the cup tie
between Celta and Betis, and upset the visitors awarding a penalty against
them, ruling out a goal from Dani (for a clear offside) and then turning down a
penalty appeal by Varela. He made up for it though sending off José
Enrique for an off the pitch tackle on champion diver Dani, and then sending
Celta coach Fernando Vázquez up into the stands for protesting.
