Esquinas Torres was in the
thick of things this weekend in the match between Zaragoza an Barcelona when
Samuel Eto'o threatened to walk off the pitch after receiving racist insults
from certain sections of the crowd. The veteran referee had already stopped the
game to make an announcement for the chants to stop, but when they didn't he
had to persuade the Cameroonian striker to stay on. Several other players
including Ronaldinho, Márquez and Ewerthon also said they would leave
the pitch if Eto'o went, but in the end he decided to play out the remaining
ten minutes or so. Esquinas included the incidents in his match report, and the
club (who are now trying to identify the perpetrators) have been fined
9,000.
Elsewhere it was a
relatively quiet weekend, with only a couple of incidents surrounding
controversial goals to report. Getafe coach Bernd Schuster was upset with
Pérez Lasa after he allowed David Navarro's strike to count, even though
Valencia's Regueiro had clearly pushed defender in the back before heading the
ball across. And Osasuna were less than happy with Ramírez
Domínguez in their match against Deportivo when he ruled out a goal by
Romeo for what he considered to be a previous foul. Ramírez also turned
down a blatant penalty appeal earlier on for a foul by Juanma on Milosevic.
