The usually reliable
Esquinas Torres had a bit of a wobbly on Wednesday night in the relegation
battle between Cádiz and Real Sociedad. In the first place he upset the
home side, turning down a couple of penalty appeals and ruling out an Oli
strike (correctly in this case) for a borderline offside, as a result of which
a hail of objects rained down on the pitch (and that from a crowd who are well
known for their good sportsmanship). But in the end he gifted them an equaliser
with a last minute penalty after Cifuentes controlled the ball with his upper
body, ruling incorrectly that the defender had handled. Esquinas must be
pardoned this time though as he is retiring at the end of the season, and
probably had thoughts of quiet evenings watching the games on the tele in his
head! (06.05.06) |
