Fernández gave a helping hand to Espanyol, albeit unwittingly, when he
refused to allow Pandiani to come on for Rufete against Getafe. Seconds later
Rufete crossed in for Tamudo to score what was to be the only goal of the game!
Getafe were more upset
however about his decisions not to award them two penalties, the first
resulting in a second yellow card for Casquero for "diving" and the second when
the ball hit Chica on the arm. Espanyol were not pleased themselves either when
Chica was sent off for a rigid second yellow card, feeling that the referee had
only given him a second booking to compensate the red card for Casquero.
Celta also felt hard done by
after Rodríguez Santiago turned down two penalty appeals for hand ball
by Real Sociedad defenders. Certainly Fernando Vázquez was not a happy
bunny at the end of the match, as explained in our villains section! (23.12.06)
