Rookie referee Delgado
Ferreiro came in for some stick this weekend after awarding a couple of
penalties in the match between Barcelona and Celta. The first was for the
visitors when Angel fell in the area, but television replays suggested that
Oleguer and Gio had tackled each other and the full back only tripped over his
own feet. And then he gave one at the other end for a rigorous foul by Tamas on
Gio, and once again replays showed it was a good few inches outside of the
area. Delgado admitted in the press a couple of days later that maybe he was
wrong, but the decisions had to be made on the spur of the moment and he
challenged anyone who criticised referees to give it a try to see if they could
do better. (30.01.07) |
