Quite a few refereeing
decisions were questioned over the weekend. Nobody was quite sure what the card
happy González Vázquez saw when he sent off Barcelona's Giuly on
Saturday - his report mentioned a kick from behind but all the TV cameras saw
was a slight tug on the shirt. His second yellow for Zambrotta straight after
the first was probably a bit over the top as well. Valencia's David Villa was
incorrectly pulled up twice for offside by Alvarez Izquierdo, including once
when he set off from his own half, but on the other hand he allowed Morientes's
goal to stand even though Joaquín appeared to be interfering with play
from an offside position.
On Sunday Real Madrid felt
that Teixeira Vitienes should have awarded them two more penalties (on Reyes
and Cassano) as well as the one he did give them, whereas Megia Dávila
gave one to Zaragoza's Diego Milito for a dive which would have won an Olympic
gold. Ayza Gámez also gave a dubious penalty to Recreativo for a foul by
Zé Castro on Uche (which probably made up for Agüero's goal with
his fist in the first half of the season!), and Pérez Lima ruled out an
early goal by Racing's Cristian Fernández against Osasuna which should
probably have stood. Not the best weekend for the men in black! (06.03.07)
