Fireworks were expected in
the Santiago Bernabeu stadium this weekend, where Iturralde González,
the referee with most red and yellow cards in the league, came face to face
with Real Madrid, this season the team with most cards of all (91 yellows and
six reds). Madrid had complained that they were not being given penalty
decisions this year, and they were a bit unhappy when Iturralde turned down an
appeal in the fifth minute after Gimnàstic's César Navas brought
down Van Nistelrooy. It was real borderline decision though, the foul starting
just outside the area and ending in it, and the referee did produce a red card
for Navas which ended any hope that Nàstic had of coming away with a
point or two from the capital city. (20.03.07) |
