The referees' fight against
the unilateral decisions of the disciplinary committee continued on for another
week, with another round of reports contravening federation guidelines (see
last week's report for more). Once again most of the yellow cards dished out at
the weekend will be cancelled due to the vague nature of the referees'
comments, and there are many criticisms that their actions are making a mockery
of the league.
Whilst having some sympathy
for this view, we do feel that the authorities are taking little action to sort
this out. In other countries bookings cannot be cancelled without the agreement
of the referee himself, and this is not the case in Spain.
Whatever the case, players
took the field this weekend who should have been banned, and that is
adulterating the competition at a stage where the smallest change can affect
the final outcome of the league positions. It is unlikely that anything drastic
will happen before next weekend, but after that the league takes a brief recess
for international fixtures before returning for the last two rounds of matches.
For god's sake let's get things sorted out before then! (22.05.07)
