The daily sports paper Marca
who give out the officially recognised prizes, including the Pichichi, Zamora
and the referees' Guruceta, awarded zero points (out of three) to no less than
five officials this weekend. For the life of us we can't see though why, unless
their reporters were having a bad day at work? Rubinos Pérez,
Ramírez Domínguez, Alvarez Izquierdo, Ontanaya
López-Astillero and Pérez Lasa. were all marked at the lowest
score at Levante, Getafe, Betis, Almería and Atlético
respectively, although the only really questionable performance was from
Ontanaya, who allowed the game to go on for a couple of minutes after
Elía had pulled down Negredo, and eventually sent off the keeper for
what his linesman reported as a kick to the head. Cameras showed that
Elía had grabbed the striker's shirt out of frustration (he had already
been pulled up earlier on for diving), but that any contact with the foot was
purely accidental. In fact the referee only consulted his assistant after
Elía asked for the game to be stopped to attend to Negredo, who was
still lying on the ground in a late attempt for an Oscar. (23.10.07)
