Whoops-a-daisy! Clos
Gómez has hardly featured on our pages in the couple of years that he
has been refereeing at the top level. But he certainly made a name for himself
this weekend, coming from nowhere to top our chart after smashing the record
books with fifteen yellow cards and six reds!
Clos (who also refereed the
midweek game between Osasuna and Sevilla) was in charge of the local derby
between Atlético Madrid and Getafe, not particularly known as a high
risk fixture. And with the professional Javier Aguirre and gentlemanly Michael
Laudrup to calm things down nobody expected too many problems. But it seemed
that there were yellow cards for everything including sneezing, coughing and
farting (alright, that is a bookable offence!), and before too long
Agüero, Licht, Abbondanzieri and Reyes were off the field.
Physical trainer Iribarren
and goalkeeping coach Bastón followed for protesting, and the Guiness
Book of Records officials will be viewing the video in order to make a late
entry in this Christmas's edition. We will certainly be keeping an eye out for
the man in the future! (11.12.07) |
