Not a good weekend for
referees. No less than four goals were disallowed under dubious circumstances,
starting with Velasco Carballo, who ruled out an early goal from Betis striker
Pavone for the positional offside of a colleague. Pérez Burrull did
likewise to deprive Deportivo's Rubén Castro of a much needed goal, and
the same thing happened when Manu got the ball in the net for Getafe, this time
Delgado Ferreiro the spoilsport. Daudén Ibáñez also
disallowed a goal from Atlético's Forlán, booking Maxi for what
he considered to be a dive. That may be so, but it was still not clear why he
ruled out the goal. Add to that the fact that Velasco sent off two
Almería players in the first half hour, González Vázquez
also left Sevilla with nine, and there were a couple of doubtful penalty
decisions as well, we will all be grateful for the two week winter lay-off!
