All eyes were on Mejuto
González, who was given the onerous responsibility of refereeing the
derby match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Mejuto is considered to be the
best in Spain at the moment (he has been chosen to go to the Euro 2008 finals),
and his performance was totally correct (unless you are a fervent supporter of
one or the other side, in which case he should have given a penalty on Iniesta
/ Robinho).
Not so good though Paradas
Romero, who missed a penalty for hands by Zaragoza's Ayala and then ruled out a
good goal by Oliveira at the other end (and subsequently sent off Valencia
coach Koeman for protesting!), or Pérez Lasa, who was rather harsh in
sending off Almería's Crusat but then let off Felipe Melo.
Atlético coach Javier Aguirre probably wasn't over the moon about
Fernández Borbolán either after he showed red cards to
Agüero and Pernía, but he didn't complain. (26.12.07)
