Did it go in or not? Two bad
decisions demonstrated once again the need for technology to give a helping
hand to referees in their hour of need. On Saturday night in the match between
Recreativo and Barcelona, Clos Gómez's linesman informed his boss that
Marco Rubén's shot had crossed in to the goal after Víctor
Valdés gathered the ball on the line. Television footage later showed it
didn't. And the following day Delgado Ferreiro ruled that a shot from Levante's
Courtois which bounced down off the Betis crossbar had not gone over the line.
Television footage showed that it had. We're not saying that cameras should be
used on every occasion, but surely in the cases such as these there is a strong
argument for their use. A lot is at stake! (15.04.08) |
