No doubt about the
refereeing moment which created most noise last weekend, Iturralde
González's decision to award a penalty to Barcelona against city rivals
Espanyol talked about over and over again. The incident came when Xavi fell in
the area under a challenge from youngster Raúl Baena, and although
cameras picked up a slight tug on Xavi's shirt, it didn't seem enough for him
to fall the way he did. Barça went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to
that penalty, and Baena was shown a second yellow card and consequently a red
for saying to Iturralde as he was leaving the field "You'll see it on the tele
[that you were wrong]". The disciplinary committee didn't think that the remark
warranted a yellow card though, and overturned the decision on appeal. The
penalty and the result still stand of course! (15.12.09) |
