Cup giant-killers
Alcorcón were up against it after losing by the odd goal in the first
leg against Racing, but they could have been on the away to another epic upset
if González Vázquez had not incorrectly ruled out an early goal
by Cascón in the Sardinero stadium. Clos Gómez let Barcelona off
the hook after disallowing a Negredo goal for what he considered to be a foul
on Pinto after the keeper went walk-about outside of the area, although it
didn't matter in the end as Sevilla went through anyway. And Fernández
Borbolán upset the Villarreal players when he awarded a hotly disputed
last minute penalty to their opponents Celta which enabled the second division
club to qualify for the quarter finals. Fernández had previously turned
down another penalty appeal by the visitors which seemed much clearer than the
one he did give, but it all works out in the wash! Not much to comment on at
the weekend, although Turienzo Alvarez set a new high for the season with
thirteen yellow cards and a red as Málaga and Getafe battled for the
third time in ten days. (19.01.10) |
