Celta put a large part of
the blame for their elimination from the Spanish Cup on referee Pérez
Lasa. Pérez ruled out a late equaliser from a quickly taken Trashorras
free kick as he was still writing the incident in his note-book and hadn't
watched the play! With referees wearing ear-pieces to communicate with their
officials, there were questions why he couldn't just ask the fourth referee to
make a note of the bookings? Plenty of time afterwards if you want to write
your auto-biography!
On Saturday Barcelona were
given a helping hand by Paradas Romero, who waved away claims by hosts Sporting
for offside after Pedro scored the only goal. It was borderline, but he was a
foot or so offside when he set off on his run. Paradas also turned down a
penalty appeal after Márquez brought down Bilic early on. (02.02.10)
