Pérez Burrull is the
latest referee to be put "in the fridge" after his performance during the game
between Atlético Madrid and Valencia. The veteran referee was going to
be in charge of next weekend's fixture between Osasuna and Getafe, but the
referees' committee decided that he and his linesman will be replaced by Mejuto
González and another colleague after both completely missed the fact
that Marchena had stopped an attack with his hand whilst on the ground. The
Atlético players protested strongly, and after a long delay (his
intercom to his colleagues was not working) it was the fourth official who told
him what had happened. Red card for Marchena, and penalty to the locals.
Pérez (who had already served out a one month suspension last season
after the Real Madrid / Osasuna game) also failed to spot two further penalties
on Reyes early on and for another hand ball following a Simao free kick after
the restart, and a second red card for Miguel was also probably excessive. No
change there then! (02.03.10) |
