Referees' criteria for
producing yellow cards in the case of players showing slogans on their shirts
doesn't seem that clear right now. Suazo's booking on Saturday for showing off
his "Fuerza Chile" T-shirt was overturned on appeal by the disciplinary
committee, the club citing similar cases where players demonstrated support for
national disasters, including that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was let off a
similar offence after the storms in his native Madeira. Others though have not
been so lucky, for example Villarreal's Capdevila, who wore a T-shirt with the
face of his recently deceased ex-Espanyol team-mate Dani Jarque. Capdevila's
team-mate Llorente was pardoned though this week after the appeals committee
agreed that Estrada Fernández was wrong to book him for a non-existent
hand-ball at Valladolid. That was little consolation for the striker who scored
in the play, although it did not affect the result in the end. (06.04.10)
