Iturralde González
continues to add to his record card total (see report from week 33), and he
moves to the top of our table this week after adding another seven yellows and
a red to his tally in the match between Zaragoza and Espanyol. Iturralde was
not a popular man in the Espanyol changing room though after he awarded a
controversial penalty to the locals after Nico Pareja and Ander Herrera both
battled to win the ball with a quarter of an hour to go. From the TV images it
appeared to be six of one and half a dozen of the other, but the penalty stood
(and was converted by Colunga), and Pareja was booked and then subsequently
sent off for his protests. Forlín and Luis García were also
booked for arguing, and after the players and officials left the pitch
(according to Iturralde's match report), Luis García approached him
menacingly saying "you always give penalties against us"! Curiously the
referee's report goes on to say that the players came out wearing T-shirts with
the message "Become an organ donor!". It was not clear whether he was hinting
that García wanted Iturralde to do so there an then! (07.05.10)
