Fernández Borbalán was in the hot seat at the Bernabeu this weekend, and after the bad-tempered clashes between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the pre-season Super Cup (the second of which he officiated), there was some concern as to what could happen. In the end however the two teams called a (fragile?) truce, and although there were still seven yellow cards, there was no repetition of the scenes in those curtain raisers. Mourinho still wasn't completely happy with the referee as he felt he should have given a second yellow to Messi shortly before the break, although the coach put his side's defeat down to bad luck rather than bad refereeing.
