Rookie referee Pérez Montero didn't have the best of nights when he officiated the match between Mallorca and Real Madrid. For the first time that we have been watching top flight football, the referee gave a player offside when he had picked the ball up in his own half! Even worse, Víctor Casadesús wouldn't have been offside even then as there was a defender in front of him, and although it is debateable if Casillas could have stopped him scoring had the whistle not been blown beforehand, it was bad enough for local coach Joaquín Caparrós to get himself sent off for his protests.
