Velasco Carballo pulled a neat trick this weekend, showing fourteen yellow cards in the game between Zaragoza and Osasuna without booking the same player twice! Statisticians amongst you can work out the odds of that, especially taking in to account the propensity of some players to pick up more cards than others! Elsewhere Hernández Hernández gave a dubious penalty to each side in the match between Real Sociedad and Levante, and then sent off Nikos for two rigid yellow cards (incidentally the eighth match in a row that Real Sociedad have ended up playing against ten men). The appeals committee decided that at least one of those cards was not valid, but the damage had already been done. Pérez Lasa also rather harshly sent off Valencia's Tino Costa, the thirteenth red card he has shown in what we believe to be his last season before retiring. Pérez has been put in the charge of the upcoming "clásico" between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the league, something Madrid in particular are nervous about after incidents with the referee in the recent past (this season alone he has sent off Coentrao twice and Di María once, and clashed with Mourinho and his assistant Rui Farias). Like Gregorio Manzano once said about the infamous linesman Rafa Guerrero, "he's more dangerous than a monkey with two pistols!" (20.02.13)
