Betis were not happy this weekend with Muñiz Fernández after he awarded their hosts Valencia an early penalty for what he considered to be a foul by Amaya on Soldado, sending the defender off with a straight red card. Television images showed that the incident took place just outside of the area, and the appeals committee decided that it wasn't even a foul as Amaya got to the ball first, the administrators overturning the red card and cancelling the one match ban which had been imposed. Muñiz also let Mathieu off what would have been a second yellow card when he clearly held back Rubén Castro as he advanced on goal at the beginning of the second half, and Valencia went on to win 3-0 in a match which may decided which of the two teams plays European football next season. Elsewhere Mateu Lahoz decided not to penalize Sergio Ramos when he pulled back Mallorca's Víctor inside the area with the game poised at 1-2, and Gil Manzano showed a season high sixteen yellow cards in the match between Granada and Levante. Although amazingly no player was sent off, Gil has devastated both teams for the next round of games as each will lose three players due to the accumulation of bookings. (20.03.13)
