Derby matches are always difficult for referees, and Del Cerro Grande didn't come out of Friday night's hot-tempered game at Sevilla smelling of roses after a couple of controversial decisions. Sevilla's first goal should probably not have stood as Negredo was in a clearly offside position during the build up, and even though Chica prevented Rakitic's pass from reaching him he was clearly interfering with play.
Del Cerro compensated his mistake though with a dubious penalty in favour of hosts Betis in an off-the-ball incident early in the second half, ruling that Fazio had deliberately pushed over Molina as both ran in to the area, and a few minutes later he fell for some poor play-acting by Cañas to send off Sevilla's Medel, who once again fell easily in to the trap. The game ended in a draw though, so no harm done, eh?
Elsewhere it was good to see Fernández Borbolán back after a long injury lay-off, although Zaragoza may think otherwise after he turned down two good penalty appeals in their match against Barcelona. (17.04.13)
