A lot of borderline penalty decisions this weekend which could have gone in either direction. Rookie referee Martínez Munuera for example chose to look the other way on three occasions in the match between Málaga and Real Madrid, twice for possible fouls on Bale and once for one committed by Carvajal, and he also let Pepe off scot free when a clumsy tackle left his fellow countryman Duda writhing on the ground (in fact Duda was booked for protesting!). Meanwhile Hernández Hernández turned down appeals by Charles (Celta) and Pedro López (Levante), giving López a yellow card for diving which the disciplinary committee later overturned. On the other hand (or not, as we shall see!), Velasco Carballo awarded a spot kick to Sevilla for what he considered to be a hand ball by Valladolid’s Mitrovic, TV cameras later proving the officials wrong. All questionable depending on what colour glasses you wear, but then that’s football! (19.03.14)
