Some controversial refereeing decisions this weekend which could well affect the battle to avoid relegation, with Getafe, Almería and Granada all benefitting! José Antonio Teixeira Vitienes at first ruled out Getafe’s first goal against Barcelona as he considered that Lafita had controlled the ball with his arm, but then he changed his mind and allowed the strike to stand. And Iglesias Villanueva waved away what looked like a good penalty appeal by Betis when Almería’s Rafita handled in the area in injury time, and then allowed play to go on past the allotted hour for Azeez to score the winner. Then in the Monday night game Ighalo’s last gasp equalizer for Granada at Real Sociedad was deemed to be valid by Teixeira’s elder brother Fernando, even though he was clearly in an offside position when he scored! Despite all that, “los hermanos Teixeira” will be in charge of two vital matches in the penultimate weekend, José Antonio being given the top game between leaders Atlético Madrid and Málaga, and Fernando officiating the match between Elche and Barcelona. Quite honestly, we’d rather not think about it! (07.05.14)
