Fernández Borbolán didn’t have the best of games in the fixture between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao on Saturday night, although in the end it didn’t affect the outcome as Neymar wrapped things up for the locals late on. The referee and his assistants disallowed an earlier strike by Munir for a questionable offside, and at least three fairly strong penalty appeals were ignored (Mascherano on Aduríz, Iraizoz on Munir and Gurpegi on Munir...). Two other strikes were incorrectly ruled offside elsewhere as well, for Málaga’s Juanmi (by Gil Manzano), and for Espanyol’s Sergio García (by Clos Gómez). Whether they would have changed the respective results is, as ever, a question for theologists! (17.09.14)
