Not that they need it, but Pérez Montero did give Real Madrid a helping hand this weekend with a couple of decisions early on in the second half of their match against Rayo Vallecano. Rayo had surprisingly pegged their hosts back to 2-1 just before the break, and Leo Baptistao got the ball in the net on a quick breakaway only to be pulled up for the tightest of offsides. Soon afterwards though Benzema turned in a wayward Ronaldo shot to make it 3-1, Pérez ignoring the fact that the striker was more than a yard offside. Madrid eventually ran out 5-1 victors so it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference, but the two decisions did come at a vital point of the game. Elsewhere Mateu Lahoz was probably a bit harsh in sending off Deportivo’s Postiga for a second booking on the half hour mark against Córdoba, and Real Sociedad thought that Alvarez Izquierdo could have given them up to three penalties, albeit that he did send off Atlético’s Siqueira to their advantage. All tight calls, but that’s football! (11.11.14)
