If David Moyes hadn’t boned up on Spanish referees before he moved to San Sebastian, he is learning about them the hard way now! One thing you mustn’t do as a coach over here is criticise the officials, but if you must, please don’t make rude signs such as emulating a pair of binoculars, it only upsets them, and look at the consequences! Moyes could argue that, as he can’t speak the lingo yet, that was his way of communicating that maybe the officials had made a mistake pulling up Finnbogason for offside later on in the cup tie against Villarreal, but World Cup referee Velasco Carballo didn’t see it that way, and it was off to the stands with him! He seemed to have learned his lesson though at the weekend, and his protests were more subdued when Melero López awarded a dubious corner to Rayo which led up to Manucho’s winning goal. Still, the fans like that fiery Scottish temperament! (20.01.15)
