Much debate about the offside rule this weekend after Sergio Ramos opened the scoring for Real Madrid on Saturday against Málaga. The player’s feet were actually in line with a defender, but he was leaning forward, and his head was clearly further forward, which experts assure us counts as offside. Rookie referee Bikandi Garrido allowed the goal to stand though, and that was all that mattered. Later in the evening the Getafe players complained with reason that Velázquez had brought down Athletic’s Viguera outside the penalty area, but Mateu Lahoz and his officials didn’t agree, and a spot kick was awarded which started off a goal spree. Nobody protested about the red card however. Elsewhere there was a bit of confusion when Velasco Carballo appeared to have awarded a penalty to Celta after Larrivey fell theatrically in the Eibar penalty area. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Eibar players, but it eventually turned out that he had booked the striker for diving. He could have said that at the start though! Velasco did give a spot kick to the visitors a few minutes later, but by then everybody decided it was better just to get on with it. (23.04.15)
