Celta dropped out of the top three after they were thrashed 1-5 by Valencia on Saturday afternoon, although the result could have been different had Bikandi Garrido allowed a strike by the locals to stand shortly after they had pegged the scoreline back to 1-1. Although the Galicians got the ball in the net, the referee decided not to apply the advantage rule, pulling the play back but awarding a free kick to Celta for a foul in the build up by Javi Fuego, who he booked. Elsewhere it seemed that referees were generally reluctant to award penalties, with hand-balls by Betis’ Westermann and Sporting’s Bernardo and pushes on Granada’s Miguel Lopes and Athletic’s Sabin going unpunished, to name but a few. The two spot kicks that were given, for fouls on Barça’s Munir and Eibar’s Sergi Enrich, were however fairly clear. (11.11.15)
