Hernández Hernández is being touted as one of Spain’s top young referees, and he was put in charge of the latest “clásico” in the Nou Camp. If anything he favoured Barcelona, failing to pull up Luis Suárez for offside early on (the striker missed the target in the end), and disallowing what looked like a perfectly good headed goal by Bale later on for what he considered to be a foul on Jordi Alba. On the other hand the locals thought they should have had a penalty midway through the first half when Sergio Ramos brought down Messi on the edge of the area (probably outside of the box though?), and that would also have meant a second yellow card for the defender. In the end Ramos did get his come-uppance for a foul on Suárez, but Madrid only had to hang on for another five minutes to tie up a morale-boosting win. It probably depends on who you support though to judge whether Hernández did a good job or not. We imagine that only the neutrals would have agreed that that was the case! (06.04.16)
