Levante were the first team to be relegated this season after they lost 3-1 at Málaga on Monday, although they could have survived for a bit longer had Bikandi Garrido not ruled out two goals by the Valencia based team for offside. Cuero’s first before anyone had scored probably should have been disallowed (although some pundits thought he had been played onside by a defender), but the second by Morales with the scores at 1-1 was definitely a wrong decision. Whether they would have gone on to win is academic, and with Atlético and Rayo up next they would probably have gone down anyway in the end, but the players left the field of play feeling that they had been cheated of that last chance to save themselves.
