Poor old Mateu Lahoz didn’t make it to the end of an injury prone match between Sevilla and Alavés on Sunday afternoon. Whether it was the intense heat or not, both teams had seen two players limp off the pitch before Mateu became the fifth victim with a pulled leg muscle. He swapped places with fourth official Hernández Maeso, who wasted no time in making his mark, producing no less than four yellow cards in the fifteen minutes or so he was on the park. A good job he wasn`t on for a lot longer, as the game would have ended without players! The mild mannered Mateu’s face was a picture to see! A mention as well for Del Cerro Grande, who just missed out on our White Stick award last season. He managed twelve bookings and two red cards in the game between Málaga and Athletic Bilbao, taking him well clear at the top of our chart. Athletic coach Valverde was not happy at all though as, although he agreed that his player Balenziaga should have been sent off for a retaliatory kick on Rosales, he also felt that the Málaga full back should have been given a red card for the initial high challenge which left Balenziaga writhing in (genuine?) agony on the ground.
