Real Madrid laid to rest a run of two defeats in a row with a 2-1 victory against Málaga on Saturday, although they were given a helping hand by Gil Manzano, who failed to spot that Sergio Ramos scored his second goal from an offside position. The following day Osasuna were livid that Estrada Fernández allowed a last minute winner by Sevilla’s Franco Vázquez to stand after the forward pushed Oriol Riera out of the way before he headed in a corner. Referees always favour the bigger teams, they complained. Barcelona meanwhile had no moans about the men in black this week, although their cup opponents Real Sociedad were not happy at what they considered to be theatrics by the likes of Neymar and Luis Suárez. The former won a penalty off Yuri, and both had further appeals turned down by Martínez Munuera when they fell in the area under challenges by Rulli. Barça’s weekend hosts Eibar also protested that Luis Suárez had fouled Laguardia before scoring his team’s third, and they felt hard done by that Adrián González had a headed goal ruled out by Sánchez Martínez for a marginal offside earlier on. They were however fortunate that Escalante was not sent off, as explained in our “Villains” section. (25.01.17)
